Second Saturday Art Trail

Twelve art galleries in Kerrville and Ingram present special events from 10am - 6 pm on the 2nd Saturday of each month. Visit the galleries and enjoy great Art, food, and festivities. Follow the orange "Art In The Hills" banners!

Visit the Hill Country and enjoy good art in many media. The Art Trail extends west for ten miles from downtown Kerrville to the center of Ingram.

Kerr County is blessed with many artists and artisans, making it a popular destination for art lovers and seekers of fine jewelry and unique gifts. Kerrville is home to both the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center and the Museum of Western Art, and nearby Ingram boasts the Hill Country Arts Foundation, which includes a beautiful visual arts gallery, classrooms, and exciting theaters for year-round live performances.

In addition to these quality art venues, a new array of galleries have come to the area, bringing a diversity of styles and approaches to art. The twelve galleries have joined forces, forming the Art In The Hills Association, and they invite the public to experience the "Second Saturday" Art Trail, a free event, which gives visitors the opportunity to spend the day gallery hopping, enjoying food, festivities, and above all, the arts.

Every month, on the second Saturday, galleries along the "Art in the Hills" Art Trail host special events and demonstrations, serve refreshments, and give the public the opportunity to meet the artists. The galleries display an orange "Art In The Hills" banner, and maps are available for the galleries.

A "passport prize" is also awarded each month. Pick up a passport at any participating gallery and have it stamped at seven of the galleries for a chance to win the doorprize, a gift from one of the galleries.

The Art Trail starts at the star, which lies in the center of downtown Kerrville. There, visitors will find L Bar Western Art gallery down the street from the Rivers Edge Gallery. Both present original art, limited edition prints, object art, and jewelry. Around the corner is the large Kerr Arts and Cultural Center which provides venues for local artists and artisans to display and sell their work. Two blocks up Earl Garrett, custom jewelry designer Jim Morris delights the eyes with his custom creations.

Following the trail map across the river, and the orange banners, art lovers can find world-class bronzes and paintings at the Museum of Western Art.

Coming back down Junction Highway, to the west, the Kerrville art scene bursts with color at the 1550 Gallery, which shows contemporary painting, sculpture, art glass, and original jewelry. Continuing west, visitors can appreciate wildlife and western art, as well as unique gifts, at Wildgoose Gallery.

Past the light in Ingram, and proceeding on Highway # 39, one needs to follow the Old Ingram Loop. Here the art lover may stroll from gallery to gallery discovering the colorful acrylic paintings by Lavinia Schlabach, SAWG, at Old Ingram Gallery & Studio, pastels and oils in landscapes and portraits at Steven Napper Fine Arts, large wood sculptures and handsome stone jewelry at Riverwood Studio, located inside the Copper Cactus, and hand-engraved belt buckles and accessories at Clint Orms-Engravers & Silversmiths.

Driving west from the loop, over the bridge, take an immediate left onto the campus of the Hill Country Arts Foundation. The Duncan McAshan Art Gallery hosts large juried art shows and studios welcome students for workshops with nationally known art teachers.
